Iga Swiatek ended the 2022 dream season by a wide margin on the WTA throne

67 match wins with just nine defeats - 37 of them en suite between the tournaments in Doha (March) and the French Open (June), eight tournament wins - two of them at the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris and New York and four at WTA Tour 1000 events. Iga Swiatek has had a real dream season, but the semi-final loss at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth against Aryna Sabalenka gives a little cause for irritation.

If the 21-year-old from Warsaw then looks at the current WTA ranking, it must be clear that something special has happened - after all, the Pole is leading with more than twice as many points (11,085) ahead of her first pursuer Ons Jabeur, who is on a total of 5055 counters comes.

"A Real Adventure"

On her profile on Instagram, the industry leader drew an unreservedly positive conclusion about the past season. In the last few days she has had more time to realize what she has achieved this year: "It is difficult to describe it in one word or one sentence. I am sure that it was something special and I'll never forget it."

"On the one hand, my results have been incredible, but on the other hand, what I've been able to learn about myself is a completely different story. There's certainly still a lot of work and challenges ahead. I'm looking forward to it." Finally, she thanked her fans for their support: "This season was also a real adventure thanks to you!"
