It is not uncommon for players like Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka and Co to ask the question: Why are they still doing this at all? A link to the achievements of the past days seems - also in view of the physical condition of the veterans - at least unrealistic. And anyway, these gentlemen have already won everything there is to win in tennis anyway. So why?

Well, these two gentlemen provide the answer to this question themselves week in and week out. The sacrifice, the love of sport and the enjoyment of success is what drives these gentlemen. And these factors represent what led them to succeed three times at the Grand Slam level. Reaching a world ranking within the top 100? Admittedly, that looks pretty puny.

Wawrinka humble

And yet this achievement has now prompted the 37-year-old Wawrinka to make it clear once again how much such successes mean to the Swiss in the autumn of his career. In an emotional tweet, Wawrinka wrote, "Work hard and follow your dreams but never forget where you came from." In addition, a video that shows the Swiss in childhood. And one a few days ago. The message: "I've achieved much more than I ever dreamed of, but it will always be something special." The return to the top 100 namely.

Most recently, the Swiss reached the quarterfinals at the ATP events in Rotterdam and Marseille and then took a break to prepare as best as possible for the Sunshine Double in the USA. In Indian Wells, the three-time Grand Slam winner will be there with a protected ranking. In Miami, the former world number three would need a wild card to be able to get involved in the second ATP Masters 1000 event in the United States.
