Actually, the ATP Masters 1000 tournament was also intended for a Jannik Sinner to make a big push towards participating in the ATP Finals in Turin. And that Sinner's compatriot Matteo Berrettini takes the last decisive step. It didn't go smoothly for the two Italians, Berrettini has probably collected enough points over the course of the season to be enough.

Not brand new, but again surprising in the raffle: Cameron Norrie. The Brit is already in the semi-finals in Indian Wells after his superior win against Diego Schwartzman, which means he has 360 points for sure. Of course, these are far from being enough to really speculate with a ticket for Turin. On the other hand: Two more match wins and Norrie scratches the 3000 point mark. And with another good result, especially in Paris-Bercy, it could make its premiere at the finals.

Norrie for the second time against Dimitrov

This would by no means be undeserved - even if Norrie has just left points with the majors. Most recently at the US Open, where he was eliminated in round one against Carlos Alcaraz. Like before that in the 1000s in Cincinnati (against John Isner) and Toronto (against Karen Khachanov). At Wimbledon, Cameron Norrie became the penultimate victim of Roger Federer before he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Hubert Hurkacz. The Hurkacz that Norrie should have faced in Indian Wells in the semifinals. Grigor Dimitrov thwarted the Poles on Thursday.

Norriein won a tournament this season (in Los Cabos) and delivered some outstanding results. Like the success against Dominic Thiem on the ashes of Lyon. There are also finals in Estoril, Lyon, the Queen's Club in London and most recently in San Diego. Almost unbelievable that Norrie still had to qualify in Rome.

So far, Norrie has played against Dimitrov once and prevailed 7: 5 and 7: 5 in Miami. The Bulgarian has already left his mark at the ATP Finals: Dimitrov won in London in 2017, after his best season. Should Norrie actually strike at Indian Wells, he could earn the chance to follow in Dimitrov's footsteps.
