It's been like this with Roger Federer for a few years: Is it more honor for the organizers of an award ceremony that Federer actually collects his award personally? Or are there still awards that still mean something to the now 41-year-old? Well: Roger Federer's nursery is probably too good to give a completely true answer to this question.
In any case, the fact is: On Sunday evening in Zurich, the Maestro was honored with an honorary award as part of the honoring of the athletes of the year in Switzerland (where athlete Mujinga Kambundji and skier Marco Odermatt were honored in the main category). Federer himself has won the race to become a Swiss sportsman seven times.
From a sporting point of view, the tennis legend was of course left out this time: Federer has only played one match in the past 18 months, and his last one at all: at the Laver Cup in London alongside Rafael Nadal. Since then, Roger Federer has shone in the role of the early retiree. And is still constantly on the move on behalf of his sponsors and himself.
