It wasn't that long ago that Novak Djokovic , Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem led the men's world rankings. At the Australian Open 2021 they still occupied the first three places on the seeding list, but since then the three major champions have followed extremely different paths.
While Djokovic missed the Grand Slam by just one win last year, Nadal and Thiem didn't have much reason to be happy in the second half of the year. Injuries slowed them down, but at least the Spaniard celebrated his comeback at the beginning of the current calendar year. And crowned this for the time being with the victory at the Australian Open.
And Thiem? After a protracted wrist injury and subsequent problems between the knuckles, the Austrian's fans are still waiting for his return, which could possibly come at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Monte Carlo.
Nadal renounces Miami
From April 10th, the former top three in the world rankings could meet again in the Principality. Because Djokovic is expected to serve in Monte Carlo without a corona vaccination, Nadal probably canceled his appearance in Miami not least because of the approaching clay court season .
By the way, Thiem, Nadal and Djokovic recently started together at the French Open 2021. After that, the Lower Austrian only took a step onto a match court in Mallorca. It should be one with serious consequences .
