Torben Beltz has taken on a new task after the recent separation from Emma Raducanu: The 45-year-old will train Anett Kontaveit, the current number 2 in the tennis world, with immediate effect. Kontaveit announced this on their website.
Beltz is one of the most successful coaches on the WTA tour. He is best known for his collaboration with Angelique Kerber , whom he knew from an early age and trained over several stages - including her Grand Slam tournament victories at the Australian Open and US Open 2016. Beltz also led Kerber to the Top of the WTA world rankings.
After the great period of success with Kerber, Beltz worked for Donna Vekic and led her into the top 20.
Ex-Kerber coach Beltz: After Emma Raducanu, he is now taking over Kontaveit
Most recently, Beltz was on board with Emma Raducanu. After the Briton surprisingly won the US Open last year, she was looking for an experienced coach on the tour. However, the collaboration was short-lived. The 19-year-old ended the partnership after the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in April, where Raducanu finally made a strong showing after a difficult period.
With Kontaveit, Beltz is now taking on another top player: The Estonian has had a great run since last year, has been virtually unbeatable at indoor tournaments and is currently second in the world - higher than ever. Recently, however, there was a problem with Kontaveit , who was also struggling with corona disease.
Kontaveit: Separation from Tursunov due to visa problems
Her ex-coach Dmitry Tursunov played a large part in the success. The collaboration with the Russian ex-professional ended for practical reasons, as Kontaveit explained some time ago: Tursunov is currently having difficulties getting his visa for travel, but she needs someone who can be relied on to travel with her.
The 26-year-old recently said that the uncertainty kept her busy on the court. "He couldn't go to the US in March, now there are problems with England. The visa process is very difficult for him at the moment."
