Alexander Zverev probably imagined things differently: In his first official competition match after falling at the French Open in June of this year, the German number one went down at the United Cup in Sydney against Jiri Lehecka 4: 6 and 2: 6 . Which is also surprising in that the young Czech didn't stand a chance against Taylor Fritz in his first appearance two days ago.
There was also a disappointment for Jule Niemeier. Christopher Kas's protégé lost to Marie Bouzkova 2:6 and 5:7. Which puts Germany 2-0 down after the first day.
Oscar Otte and Laura Siegemund have to get the chestnuts out of the fire on Sunday.
