Paula Badosa and Harriet Dart spent three hours and four minutes on Center Court in Sydney before the favored Spaniard was the winner with 6:7 (6), 7:6 (5) and 6:1. Badosa kept her team's chances alive. Because on Saturday Rafael Nadal lost to Cameron Norrie and Nuria Parrizas Dias to Katie Swan.
Badosa served in the second round at 5: 4 and 6: 5 without success to equalize the set. But then benefited from a double fault from her opponent at the last point in the tie-break.
It's now up to Albert Ramos-Vinolas to equalize against Daniel Evans. In the final doubles, Badosa could still ensure a Spanish opening victory together with Rafael Nadal.
Meanwhile, Poland took a 2-1 lead against Kazakhstan: Hubert Hukrkacz defeated Alexander Bublik 7-6, 4-6 and 6-3 in an entertaining game.
