Daniil Medvedev would have competed with Russia under a neutral flag, because of him also under that of the ATP. But the pragmatic Russian probably already suspected at his first press conference in Vienna that there would be no place for him and his colleagues at the United Cup at the beginning of the 2023 tennis year. Nor for Belarus. That became known on Thursday.

However, Medvedev and Co. will have the opportunity to collect ATP or WTA points at tournaments parallel to the United Cup.

At best, there can be 500 of these at the new mixed event. A total of 18 nations will take part, and things should start on December 29th. Each game consists of two singles for women and men and a mixed doubles, which, as of now, will only be played if there is a draw after the singles matches.

Sydney, Brisbane and Perth have been chosen as venues. A total of almost 15 million US dollars in prize money will be distributed.
