Today the first matches of the mixed tournament took place in Australia. Two singles were played today; with two singles and one doubles, the decision will be made tomorrow. Among the Americans, Taylor Fritz was able to assert itself against Jiri Lehecka and Madison Keys against Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic. The Brits also got through with four straight sets. Things got tight for the Greek team for the first time. Both Despina Papamichail (against Isabella Shinikova 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 1) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (against Grigor Dimitrov 4: 6, 6: 2, 7: 6 (4)) had to go through three sets.
France, Switzerland, Italy
Cornet and Rinderknech scored two quick points against Argentina and the Swiss were also able to gain a lead with Belinda Bencic and Marc-Andrea Hüsler. The only group clash that ended in a draw was between Italy and Brazil. Martina Trevisan (world number 27) lost 2:6, 0:6 against the world number 15. Beatrice Haddad Maia. However, Musetti was able to prevail against Meligeni Alves.
outlook
Phew... quite a lot of teams, names and matches. A smaller number of participants would certainly not have harmed the United Cup. But what the heck... tomorrow we will continue with the same teams. We can look forward to the game by Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Bublik, the doubles Tsitsipas/Sakkari and Pegula, Tiafoe, Garcia and Berrettini will start tomorrow. The Germans will be on stage for the first time on New Year's Eve. But then immediately with the recovered Alexander Zverev and the strong Jule Niemeier.
