Top game in the last third round match of the day at the Wimbledon tournament in 2021. While Denis Shapovalov benefited from a walkover after a highly competitive five-set win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round, Andy Murray had to push overtime for his promotion in round three. In the end, however, the two-time Wimbledon champion, now equipped with a metal hip, made the encounter with the Canadian offensive artist perfect.
From the start, Denis Shapovalov showed what the youngster is capable of on a good day. The 22-year-old started offensive, didn't let Murray breathe - and quickly moved away to 5: 1. Then, however, Shapovalov also showed why, despite his impressive repertoire, he is not yet consistently among the world's best: Many slight mistakes by the Canadian subsequently shaped the center court - Muray even had the chance to equalize in the score of 4: 5 to make the first pass. However, Shapovalov was able to prevent this, set one went to the twelfth in the world rankings.
Murray can't answer
That should get the Canadian back on track, Shapovalov also got off to a much better start in the second round than the veteran Murray, who was again quickly faced with a 4-0 deficit. In total, a few percentage points were missing in all respects - Shapovalov was able to dictate the game and repeatedly push Murray deeply on the defensive. And on this tennis evening he was unable to free himself from it. The logical consequence: Round two also went to the Canadian, who this time acted more concentrated with a 5: 1 lead and served up to 6: 2 with his own serve.

Another Briton fails with Evans
And then it happened, as it has happened in all Andy Murray games to date in Wimbledon tournaments: the roof was closed, the players had to pause. A breather for the Scotsman - and a break to possibly find the last outcome in this match. A feat that the former number one in the world did not want to succeed, however: Shapovalov managed the early break again, which the Canadian ultimately transported safely to 6: 4, 6: 2 and 6: 2 success. A clear package for a courageously fighting Andy Murray, who obviously seemed to be running out of strength. In the round of 16, Shapovalov will now face Roberto Bautista Agut, who defeated Dominik Koepfer in three sets on Friday afternoon.
The American youngster Sebastian Korda, who was able to put local hero Dan Evans in his place on Center Court, also made it to the round of 16. In a close match, Korda was a little braver in the end and finally made it into the round of the last 16 with 6: 3, 3: 6, 6: 3 and 6: 4. In this Korda now meets the Russian Karen Khachanov, who has presented himself in the best mood in the tournament so far.
