Although Wimbledon will not be played on the first Sunday of this year for the last time, the numerous tennis fans around the world had reason to be happy: As the organizers of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year announced, the quarter-finals will take place in front of a full house .
On the two largest squares in the facility - the Center Court and Court 1 - all seats may be filled again from Tuesday, when the women's quarter-finals will take place. That was decided "after the successful implementation of the first week" in "coordination with the event research program of the government and the local authority in Merton".
"It will be the first full outdoor stadiums at a sporting event in the UK since the pandemic began," the statement said. As of Tuesday, 14,979 people will be admitted to Center Court and 12,345 people to Court 1. The number of spectators allowed on the other places will be adjusted "according to the number of courts used".

Given the rising corona numbers in the UK, this news comes as a surprise. Originally, Wimbledon did not want to play in front of a full house again until the final weekend. But now "Manic Monday" will be the last day on which half of the seats on the two largest courts and 75 percent of the seats on all other courts will be occupied.
