The British tennis fans can finally have high hopes for women again: With Emma Raducanu, who is only 18, a local hero has made it into the round of 16, completely surprisingly. Raducano defeated the Romanian veteran Sorana Cirstea 6: 3 and 7: 5 after a playful masterpiece and with very strong nerves on Court 1 and meets Ajla Tomljanovic on "Manic Monday". The Australian won against Jelena Ostapenko in three sets.
After winning the first set, Raducanu seemed to be on the winning road early in the second round, leading with a quick break. Cirstea fought her way back into the match but didn't make it into the tie-break. Instead, Raducanu, who immigrated from Canada at the age of three, celebrated her greatest career triumph after exactly 100 minutes of play.
Gauff now against Kerber
Almost at the same time, Cori Gauff also booked her place in the second week of Wimbledon 2021. The 17-year-old American was the favorite in the match against Kaja Juvan from Slovenia. And mastered this task with ease at 6: 3 and 6: 3. A difficult task is now waiting for Gauff: It's against Angelique Kerber, the winner of 2018. Kerber won after a weak start against Aliaksandra Sasnovich from Belarus with 2: 6, 6: 0 and 6: 1.
The finalist of the French Open was eliminated a few weeks ago: Anastasija Pavlyuchenkova was defeated by the Czech Karolina Muchova 5: 7 and 3: 6.
