Dominik Koepfer was eliminated in the third round at Wimbledon. The 27-year-old from Furtwangen lost against number eight seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut 5: 7, 1: 6, 6: 7 (4: 7). This means that Koepfer's last 16 participation at the 2019 US Open remains Koepfer's best Grand Slam result to date.
The first round was marked by numerous service losses by both players. In the end, Bautista Agut had the lead with a break ratio of 4: 3 and won the set 7: 5 after 52 minutes. After that Koepfer's resistance seemed broken, after two more breaks and 81 minutes of playing time, Bautista Agut also won the second set 6: 1.
In the third round Koepfer found his way back into the match and was already leading 5-2, but then again mistakes crept into his game, especially with the backhand. The left-hander had to let Bautista Agut approach 5: 5, took the lead 6: 5 on his own serve and then lost out in the tie-break. After 2:20 hours, Bautista Agut, Wimbledon semi-finalist of 2019, converted his first match point.
