It took less than half an hour of play on Monday before the tarpaulins had to be pulled over the outdoor courts for the first time, lawn tennis is and will remain sensitive. Which requires an increased capacity for suffering on the part of the players - either as active players whose match was interrupted. Or as a waiter. Of course, the two largest courts in Wimbledon, namely the Center and the 1er, are an exception to this. Thanks to the roofs, there is planning security there, if things go quickly, the game program will be expanded to include another match.
One does not lean too far out of the window if one assumes that Dennis Novak will be among the waiting and capable of suffering, at least in round one. The very first matchup with Facundo Bagnis is scheduled for Tuesday, let's see how the general weather situation develops over South West London.
Novak mastered the qualification for the third major of the year quite confidently, against Stefan Kozlov the 28-year-old shouldn't have made it so exciting after a 2-0 set lead. Kozlov slipped into the 128 draw as a lucky loser, and Dennis Novak didn't want to let that happen. Bagnis is 51 places ahead of Novak (102 to 153) in the current ATP world rankings, but the only Austrian in the individual competitions at Wimbledon 2022 can be considered a slight favorite.
Novak 2018 in round three
Because Facundo Bagnis has not yet won a single match on the holy lawn on Church Road, four defeats are there. Plus two with as many appearances in qualifying. Novak, on the other hand, has a game that is very compatible with grass, best remembered is the year 2018, in which he defeated Peter Polansky and Lucas Pouille after qualifying, then lost in round three to Milos Raonic in four sets.
Novak maintained the German-Austrian training friendship on Sunday, practicing with Peter Gojowczyk in Aorangi Park. Incidentally, he got it the other way around: With Oscar Otte, Gojowczyk is waiting for one of those players who have made the best impression in the grass season so far. This game is scheduled as the third and last on Court 7. This could also be a case for those waiting who are capable of suffering.
