Alison Riske and Tamara Zidansek should actually have started on the semi-final day of the second WTA tournament of the year in Adelaide. The 24-year-old Slovenian could not play for the match, Riske moved into the final without a fight. Riske had already benefited in the quarter-finals from the abandonment of Madison Brengle when the score was 3: 3 in the first set.
There the American meets compatriot Madison Keys, who made a cold start against Cori Gauff and was quickly behind with a break. However, the 2017 US Open finalist found herself again, reduced her error rate and finally won 3: 6, 6: 2 and 7: 5. Risk has won three titles on the WTA tour so far, the last one in Linz in 2021. Keys, only 87th in the WTA world rankings, holds five. Most recently she was successful in Cincinnati in 2019.
