You could have made quite a bit of money by betting on Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia ahead of the WTA Finals. It's not that the lady from Lyon didn't quite deserve to win the big season-ending tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, but accurate predictions are extremely difficult in current women's tennis - the strengths among the top players seem to be distributed too evenly.
A certain exception may be the world number one Iga Swiatek from Poland, who has more than twice as many points in the WTA ranking as her first pursuer Ons Jabeur from Tunisia. The likeable 21-year-old is not immune to surprising defeats, such as in the semi-finals of the WTA finals against Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus.
Sabalenka with the most double faults in 2022
In a quite exciting statistic, the unofficial tennis world champion of this year is also at the top, namely that of the aces beaten. Garcia is enthroned in first place with 394 unreturnable opening strokes, followed by Elena Rybakina with 370, number three, Veronika Kuedermetova, with 265 aces, is more than a hundred top serves behind the world number 22.
The double fault statistic is also led by a player in the current women's top ten, namely Garcia's WTA Finals opponent, Sabalenka. The fifth in the world rankings had an enormous 428 double serve failures with 249 aces. Ekaterina Alexandrova (289 double faults) is in second place in this unflattering statistic, third place goes to Belgian Elise Mertens (263).
