While Sinja Kraus, Barbara Haas, Tamira Paszek and Melanie Klaffner are in action at the Billie Jean King Cup Play-Off in Schwechat, Julia Grabher, in consultation with ÖTV sports director Jürgen Melzer and team captain Marion Maruska, has opted for the important hunt for points decided at a WTA Challenger South American tour. The Vorarlberger will be contesting clay court tournaments in Chile, Argentina and Uruguay in the next few weeks.
The work trip got off to a good start at the first checkpoint in Colina, Chile. Austria's number one in women's tennis clearly defeated the Romanian Irina Bara 6:4, 6:1 after only 72 minutes of play. Before that, Grabher had eliminated Frenchwoman Carole Mennet in round one with a score of 6:3, 7:5. In today's quarterfinals, the Dornbirn native will meet the American C Dolehide, who in turn knocked out the Colombian E Arango twice 6:4.
In the event of a win, the 26-year-old would be among the 80 best tennis women in the world for the first time in her career with 78th place in the live ranking.
