Julia Grabher was able to win two great victories at the WTA clay court tournament in Charleston, but she was eliminated in the round of 16. Austria's number one in women's tennis lost in the round of the last 16 players to the seventh seeded Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova after 1:22 hours of play 4:6, 2:6. In the quarter-finals, Alexandrova will face either the Swiss Belinda Bencic or the American Shelby Rogers.
Grabher most likely top 80 for the first time
In particular, the first-round brilliant performance against the Chinese Shuai Zhang, who was ranked tenth in the US state of South Carolina, should give the Vorarlberg native a boost for the upcoming tasks. Preferably in the coming week, when the Billie Jean King qualifier duel against the USA is pending. In the international match in Delray Beach, however, the Austrian women can only be given a few outsider chances, as the hosts with Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff start with the best players.
Thanks to the 40 points in the world ranking list, Grabher will most likely be among the top 80 tennis women in the world - a clear career best for the Dornbirn native. The 26-year-old is currently in 78th position in the WTA live ranking - however, she could be overtaken by some players who are still playing at the clay court tournament in Bogota.
