The WTA Tour 250 event in Charleston is slowly entering its final phase and most of the favorites for the title have reached the round of eight: Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur, Daria Kasatkina and Belinda Bencic are the four top seeded players at least in the quarterfinals.
First, however, the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka failed in her round of 16 task. The former world number one, who was sixth in the US state of South Carolina, surprisingly had to bow to Russian Anna Kalinskaya in two sets 4: 6 and 6: 7 (5).
Bencic struggles against Rogers over 3 sets
The Tunisian Jabeur then opened the victorious row of top players - the second seed bowled the local hero Caroline Dolehide 6:3, 7:5 out of the competition. The number one of the clay court event, Pegula, had more trouble. The local hero had two and a half hours of trouble in the 7: 5, 4: 6, 6: 4 win over the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.
And while Kasatkina triumphed over the American Bernarda Pera in two rounds, the fourth-ranked Bencic had to tremble for 2:43 hours against Shelby Rogers with 4: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 2. The quarterfinals are now: Pegula - Paula Badosa, Bencic - Ekaterina Alexandrova, Madison Keys - Kasatkina and Kalinskaya - Jabeur.
