Tennis mom Hana Mandlikova will be proud: the daughter of the four-time Grand Slam winner (Australian Open 1980, 1987, French Open 1981, US Open 1985) has won two ITF 25 tournaments in Florianopolis in a row. Elizabeth Mandlik, who because she was born in the USA can do without the Czech ova ending in female names, managed to win her first two titles in tournaments of this magnitude.
At the two hard court events in Brazil, the 20-year-old only lost one set. Based on the 50 world ranking points earned, the young North American will be around 330th place in the WTA ranking next Monday. Mandlik has already won two ITF 15 events in 2019 and 2021.
Big footsteps for Mandlik
Mother Hana Mandlikova, who was born in the Czech Republic, emigrated to Australia in 1986, was married there for two years and moved to the USA in 1988. Today, the former world number three lives in Florida in an openly lesbian relationship.
It will be interesting to see if daughter Elizabeth can follow in her mother's big footsteps. Mandlikova won a total of 27 singles titles and three Federation Cups for the Czechoslovak Republic during her career.
