Strycova, 36, had a baby the year before last and therefore interrupted her career. Now she has announced a comeback - at the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid. However (initially?) only in doubles, as she added. And only for a few tournaments that she really likes.
At her side, of course: Hsieh Su-Wei, with whom she has been playing since 2018. "Doubletrouble" is what Strycova calls it on Twitter.
Hsieh and Strycova triumphed at Wimbledon in 2019. Here Strycova had also achieved her best individual result in a major tournament by reaching the semifinals. And secured first place in the double ranking for the first time. In 2017 she finished 16th in the singles. Most recently, Strycova contested the Australian Open 2021.
Crowd favorite Hsieh is also making a comeback
There is also a comeback for crowd favorite Hsieh: The 37-year-old Chinese announced a longer break at the end of 2021 to recover from an ongoing injury.
Hsieh has won four majors in doubles during her career and also ranked No. 1 in doubles.
