Austria's number one won her opening match in the qualification against Eden Silva from Britain 6:2 and 6.3. Now it's up to Kristina Mladenovic for a place in the main draw of the WTA Tour 1000 event. Mladenovic was able to hold his own in round one against Marina Zanevska, who was eighth, 3: 6, 6: 3 and 6.2.
The tournament in Dubai is one of the events with 1000 status every two years. In the years in between, this changes to Doha, where the game is still played this week.
