WTA: Elina Svitolina announces break
Elina Svitolina has stated that she will take a break from tennis for now.

The Ukrainian wrote on Twitter that she had extremely difficult months behind her - mentally and physically. On the one hand, she struggled with back pain and was therefore unable to prepare well for tournaments. On the other hand, of course, she referred to Russia's war in her home country, Ukraine.
"With unbearable pain in my heart I've been following what's happening in my native country Ukraine. And with what bravery and courage Ukrainians are defending our country - that gave me a big push to keep playing and fighting on the pitch. But now my body can't take it anymore."
She must therefore announce her resignation from the Billie Jean King Cup and a few of her favorite tournaments in Europe. "Thank you for all your support during the difficult time," she concluded her message.
Svitolina had recently lost their opening games in Indian Wells and Miami.
