For Aryna Sabalenka, the working day in Indian Wells on Sunday was a short one: The Belarusian should have warmed up extensively, but then the Australian Open winner received the news that opponent Tusrenko will not be able to compete. So Sabalenka went into the round of 16 without a fight. And there against Barbora Krejcikova, who had to work much harder to reach the round of 16.
In the end, the strong Czech won against Xinyu Wang from China - even if Krejcikova left a lot, especially in the second set and finally had to give it up in the tie-break. Otherwise, there were mostly favorites to report in the lower half of the tableau: Maria Sakkari and Karolina Pliskova fixed their quarter-final duel as did Petra Kvitova and Jessica Pegula. The last round of 16 at the bottom of the tableau is contested by Coco Gauff and Rebecca Peterson.
