The fifth in the world rankings from France defeated the Canadian Leylah Fernandez in a sometimes very appealing match 6: 4, 6: 7 (5) and 6: 1 and thus remains one of the hottest players in the season after a strong second half of 2022 Scene.

Garcia was aggressive as usual, was far in the field on the return and put a lot of pressure on the US Open finalist from 2021; but she turned up the heat, especially in the second round, and with a fantastic passing ball, she quickly equalized the set.

Garcia seemed only briefly impressed and picked up where she left off in the decisive round - and won after 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Next opponent: Sorana Cirstea, who had no problems in the 6:3, 6:1 against Bernarda Pera.

Night session with Iga Swiatek

Still in action: Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina against Paula Badosa, Emma Raducanu against Beatriz Haddad Maia and at night the world number one Iga Swiatek - she has to deal with Bianca Andreescu.

Swiatek had been in impressive form recently and only lost one game in their opening win over Claire Liu.
