Emma Raducanu will open the game at Stadium 4 in Indian Wells together with Magda Linette today, the Pole starts as a favorite according to the WTA world rankings. On the other hand, Raducanu showed a very solid performance in round one against Danka Kovinic. And most importantly, the injured wrist held up. Before the tournament started, it wasn't even certain that Raducanu would be able to start.
Because after the Australian Open, the 2021 US Open winner had to take a break. But it wasn't just limited to activities on the tennis court, as Emma Raducanu stated after her first-round success.
Raducanu needs points
"After the Australian Open, I deleted WhatsApp and Instagram from my phone and then lived under my own little rock," Raducanu explained. “I think sometimes you go through phases where you just have to focus on yourself. And I was very content with my life without social media.”
In terms of sport, Emma Raducanu urgently needs a few success stories. Because in the WTA world rankings, the still only 20-year-old is only 77th. This makes it difficult for Raducanu to get starting places in smaller tournaments.
And the next generation isn't sleeping either: Because Linda Noskova, the young Czech, is already in round three in Indian Wells after beating Amanda Anisimova.
