Even moving to Prague didn't help anymore: Both Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova won't take part in the Billie Jean King Cup, which starts on November 1st. With the French Open winner Barbora Krejcikova and the Olympic wide Marketa Vondrousova, the hosts are still in a strong position, but the absence of the two formative Czech tennis players of the past few years will be hard to digest for the home fans.
On the sidelines of the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, the two declared that they were not going to play the Billie Jean King Cup: Pliskova, who recently qualified for the WTA Finals in Guadalajara, wants to fully qualify for the end-of-year finals for the eight best players of the season focus. The event in Mexico starts on November 10th, four days after the end of the team competition in Prague. "The calendar is too full," criticized the world number three.
Kvitova hit a similar line - albeit not quite as directly. The two-time Wimbledon winner will end her season after the tournament in Indian Wells. She feels the tiredness and exhaustion after an exhausting season, says the 31-year-old. That is also the reason why she does without the Billie Jean King Cup.
In the Californian desert, however, Kvitova wants to set one last exclamation mark in 2021. At the start, the world number 11 meets Arantxa Rus. A duel with her top-seeded compatriot Pliskova could only come in the final - it would be the last meeting for the time being before the two Czechs part ways for a while.
