Emma Raducanu could have made things far less exciting in the first round: The Brit already served to win the set, but then had to accept the break - Martic sent the game into a tie-break. In this, however, Raducanu, the US Open winner from 2021, set the tone again and set 7: 3 to 1: 0 sets.
In a high-class match, however, the Croatian Martic did not want to admit defeat. The 31-year-old made the break early in the second round, which the Kraotin was finally able to transport to win the set 6: 4. A third sentence had to bring the decision.
Martic with a glossy finish
In this, the events of round one were repeated: Raducanu had the opportunity to bring the match dry with his own serve, but had to accept the break at the last moment. And Petra Martic? She really got going, served to make it 6:5 and increased the pressure on Emma Raducanu again in the last service game. Pressure that the only 19-year-old could not cope with. And had to accept the break - and thus the loss of the match.
In the round of 16, Petra Martic now meets Liudmilla Samsonova, who had the upper hand against Danka Kovinic in two sets.
