Iga Swiatek only had to win one set in her duel against Caroline Wozniacki to reach the semi-finals in Indian Wells. A foot injury stopped the former world number one and forced her to retire early.
The Dane proved to be an adequate opponent in the match and even managed the first break in the match. After Wozniacki was able to make it 4-1, Iga Swiatek turned up the heat and didn't let her opponent play a single game. After 71 minutes of play, Caroline Wozniacki went to the net to congratulate her opponent on making it to the final four players.
Kostyuk does it quickly first
Before that, Marta Kostyuk was in a hurry. The Ukrainian won the first set against Anastasia Potapova 6-0. In the second set, the 33rd in the WTA ranking caught herself and played on an equal footing with the 32nd in the rankings. However, Kostyuk also secured the second set tiebreak.
The 21-year-old is now in the semi-finals of a Masters tournament for the first time, following her quarter-final participation at the Australian Open. The opponent is now the world number one Iga Swiatek.
