Corona in preparation, blisters on the batting hand at the Australian Open and then an injury on the left leg in Guadalajara. No, Emma Raducanu's start to the season wasn't really happy. The 19-year-old has only won once in her three tournament appearances so far, and she now wants to really score in Indian Wells for the first time this season.

The most recent injury has healed, says Raducanu, who, in view of her fairytale pre-season - the Brit surprisingly won the US Open in September - does not want to complain about her mixed start to the season: "I have the feeling that after all the luck I've had I've had in the last year can handle all the misfortunes that befall me."

The world number 13 should not be happy. Even with the draw, after a bye at the beginning she has to deal with the dangerous Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia. The 28-year-old had asserted herself in a gripping duel against Dayana Yastremska in the first round .

Raducanu looks calmly at the upcoming challenges: "All these stumbling blocks are part of it." The good news: at least the pressure on your shoulders is likely to be significantly less this year than it was in October of the previous year. Finally, Raducanu served for the first time in Indian Wells in 2021 after her triumph at the US Open - losing to Aliaksandra Sasnovich in round two.
