Things are getting off to a really good start on the WTA tour in the 2021 season: At the event in Abu Dhabi, which has been added to the program at short notice, some of the best players of the past season will be shown. First and foremost Sofia Kenin, who not only succeeded at the Australian Open, but also reached the final in Roland Garros. Kenin's final opponent in Melbourne, Garbine Muguruza, will also serve in Abu Dhabi.

There are also other prominent players: Elina Svitolina, for example, who fell short of expectations in 2020, as well as Karolina Pliskova, who will probably arrive with her new coach Sascha Bajin. Belinda Bencic, who was only able to play one match after the Corona break (and lost it in Rome to Danka Kovinic), will also try to get the season off to a good start in Abu Dhabi on January 5th. Cori Gauff will also serve in the United Arab Emirates.

Basically, it should be noted that this new event gives many players the opportunity to collect game practice, points and prize money early on. The main field tableau is designed for 64 participants, plus 32 in the qualification. From January 10th, women's qualification for the Australian Open will begin in Dubai, followed by a two-week break. During this time, all people entering Australia must be quarantined.
