Bianca Andreescu is slowly getting going

The 2019 US Open winner is getting better and better: After Bianca Andreescu made her long-awaited comeback at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart almost two weeks ago, she is now in the round of 16 of the WTA Tour 1000 event Madrid. As in round one, Andreescu prevailed against an American on Sunday. While Alison Riske was able to win a set, Andreescu finished offDanielle Collins 6:1 and 6:1.

The Canadian, who is still only 21, urgently needs a sense of achievement (and thus gaining points for the world rankings): Bianca Andreescu, who used to be number four in the charts, is currently in 111th place. That will change for the better with the round of 16 entry in Madrid. The next opponent will be Jessica Pegula, the next player from the USA.

The favorite situation in Madrid is basically rather difficult: the number one in the world, Iga Swiatek , had to cancel his participation at short notice. Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka lost to her nemesis Amanda Anisimova in round one. And after Simona Halep 's smooth victory over Paula Badosa on Saturday evening, the number two in the Caja Magica has already said goodbye.
