Raducanu put in a strong performance 6-2, 6-1 over Marta Kostyuk, confirming her good form. Raducanu had already acted strongly at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix last week, only losing out in the quarter-finals against the eventual winner Iga Swiatek.

After her victory against Kostyuk, the US Open winner cheered energetically - she is still trying to gain a foothold on the WTA tour, which she seems to be getting better and better at.

In Madrid she has now won a match against Anhelina Kalinina, who clearly beat local hero Garbine Muguruza 6:3, 6:0.

There were two surprises in the evening: First, Daria Kasatkina won against Maria Sakkari, who was fourth seeded, 3:6, 6:3, 6:1 in the end. Shortly thereafter, Sara Sorribes Tormo defeated Naomi Osaka 6-3, 6-1 to the delight of her home crowd.

Bianca Andreescu had already set a big exclamation mark by midday , beating Danielle Collins 6-1, 6-1 .

Also ahead: Jil Teichmann after a 6: 4, 6: 4 against US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez.
