Julia Grabher's disappointment with the clear defeat in the final qualifying defeat at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid did not last long. A few hours after the two-set defeat against Dayana Yastremska, the woman from Vorarlberg received the news that the Austrian should go into the main draw as a lucky loser.
And this is where the Vorarlberg native showed her best side this Wednesday: Grabher started like a fire brigade against Viktoriya Tomova, also a lucky loser in the main draw. Grabher secured the opening set 6:1.
Although there was a little more resistance from the Bulgarian in section two, Grabher finally showed better nerves in the tie-break and bought her ticket for round two with 6:1 and 7:6 (5). In this, none other than world number one Iga Swiatek is waiting for the Austrian.
