Jabeur beat two-time Madrid winner Simona Halep 6-3, 6-2 - in an impressive performance. Especially with her stop: 18 times she made it, 15 times she made the point. An impressive number against the very fast Romanian.
"My drop shot helped me a lot today," explained Jabeur afterwards.
Halep, on the other hand, ended up with only 8 winners and 20 mistakes without need - too many.
Jabeur first semi-finalist in Madrid
Jabeur celebrated her first win against the two-time major winner (apart from one submission success), most recently she had lost to Halep in 2020.
Jabeur is now waiting for the winner of the match between Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova.
For Halep, however, the trip to Madrid was a success: On her way to the quarter-finals, she had defeated both world number two Paula Badosa and Cori Gauff.
