WTA Merida: Niemeier and Maria eliminated
Both Jule Niemeier and Tatjana Maria failed in the first round of the WTA Tour 250 tournament in Merida.

The new tennis year continues to be tough for the German Wimbledon surprises Jule Niemeier and Tatjana Maria. Dortmund's Niemeier, who lost to Maria in the quarter-finals of the grass classic last summer, lost her first-round match at the WTA tournament in Merida, Mexico, against Hungarian Panna Udvardy 6-7 (1), 6-7 (5).
For Wimbledon semi-finalist Maria (Bad Saulgau) against Varvara Gratschewa from Russia with 6: 3, 4: 6, 2: 6 was also the end of the first round.
The 23-year-old Niemeier, as a world number 69. currently the German number one ahead of Maria (72nd), won only two matches this year on the tour.
