Victoria Azarenka's current condition? Difficult to judge. The Belarusian, who celebrated her impressive return to the top of the world with her entry into the final of the US Open last year, did not have to hit a single ball in Miami to secure her place in round three. First, Azarenka, like all seeded players, enjoyed a bye, after which Laura Siegemund was unable to play due to an injury.

However, this did not result in a major competitive advantage over her opponent on Saturday, Angelique Kerber. Because the German number one put on a gala on their first appearance, more sweat from the external conditions than from their opponent Renata Zarazua, who did not allow Kerber to win a single game.

Kerber wins against Azarenka in Melbourne

That is not to be expected against Victoria Azarenka. If Angelique Kerber had to commit to a feared opponent, Azarenka would certainly be shortlisted. After victories, it is 8: 1 for the woman from Belarus, but Kerber's only victory was one of those milestones the left-hander took on her way to her first major triumph in Melbourne in 2016.

She is looking forward to the match against Vika, said Kerber after her debut success. And she expects a good game. Azarenka, on the other hand, knows how to win in Florida: She has won three titles here, but all of them still in Key Biscayne, where the tournament was held until 2018. Azarenka hopes to have overcome the injury concerns that recently forced her to cancel her race in Dubai. "After Doha I took a little time and got myself physically and mentally in a better position." Angelique Kerber will not test how good this position is today at the Grandstand in Miami until 8 pm CET.
