As in 2021, Leylah Fernandez won the title at the WTA Tour 250 tournament in Monterrey. However, the Canadian had to fend off five match points against Camila Osorio in the 6: 7 (5), 6: 4 and 7: 6 (3).

The final of the WTA Tour 250 tournament in Monterrey was not for the faint of heart: In addition to the drama of the match between Leylah Fernandez and Maria Osorio, there was also a partial failure of the lighting system in the decisive set. Which could also have gone in favor of Osorio. But Fernandez, last year's surprise finalist at the US Open, kept his nerve. And, like in 2021, after defending five match points, he won the trophy in Monterrey.
Fernandez saved an Osorio chance at 4-5, four more at 5-6 in the third set. "It was a very, very tough match today, not only physically but also mentally," explained the winner. “Camila is a very difficult opponent. She plays very varied, plays slice balls, is very unpredictable. I'm very happy that I found solutions for the tough moments."
