Garbine Muguruza (WTA 35) wants to come back with a new coach in the new season back to the top. The former world ranking first comes back to an old companion. The 26-year-old Spaniard, who had split from her coach Sam Sumyk to Wimbledon, will again trust Conchita Martinez from the new season. The trainer who helped her to her Wimbledon victory in 2017.
"I'm happy to start a new season, make a fresh start," Muguruza told TV broadcaster ABC . "I'm starting with Conchita and I'm glad to have her by my side, we get on well and have known each other for many years, we shared some good moments and I'm eager to train to win games again and again get up. "
Lean year 2019
The two-time Grand Slam champion had worked with her compatriot Martinez until March 2018, before the paths parted. Martinez had since worked with Karolina Pliskova. Muguruza trained since Wimbledon with the Spanish Fed Cup captain Anabel Medina Garrigues and brought in this phase only one victory in five tournament starts. More than reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and French Open, as well as a WTA International Monterrey title in April, was not enough for the seven-time WTA Tournament Winner in 2019. From 18th place at the beginning of the year Muguruza slipped to currently position 35.
By 2020, this scant record at around two years ago, at the top of the Spanish world rankings, is set to change again towards its weddings. "I do not see myself very far away from where I used to be, I need to restore my level at key moments, win consecutive wins and avoid injuries," Muguruza said.
