Jabeur beat Marta Kostyuk 7:6 (5), 7:5 and meets Linda Noskova in the round of four. The only 18-year-old Czech won against Victoria Azarenka in a tight match 6: 4, 6: 7 (3), 7: 6 (6) and is thus in her first semi-final at WTA level.
The other semi-final is played by Aryna Sabalenka (6:3, 7:5 against Marketa Vondrousova) and Irina-Camelia Begu (7:5, 6:4 against Veronika Kudermetova).
At the parallel event in Auckland, Cori Gauff is still in strong early form. The American defeated Lin Zhu 6-3, 6-2, didn't give up a break and will face Danka Kovinic on Saturday. She was successful 6:3, 6:2 against Viktoria Kuzmova.
Gauff had won against Tatjana Maria at the start of the tournament.
Also in the semifinals: Ysaline Bonaventure, who won 6:4, 6:2 against the third-seeded Leylah Fernandez and is also in her first WTA semifinals.
Due to the bad weather, all games had to be played indoors.
