Victoria Azarenka has now recorded 18 wins out of just four defeats since the WTA tour restarted. Especially on hard courts, where the Belarusian feels particularly comfortable, the 31-year-old is currently hard to stop. Azarenka was able to continue the strong performances at the two events in New York City at the WTA event in Ostrava.
There Azarenka is now in the final - and in a particularly impressive manner. In the semifinals, the world number 14. Maria Sakkaria did not stand a chance, won 6: 1 and 6: 3. Given Sakkaria's previous season performances, the Greek had defeated Serena Williams in New York City, another big exclamation mark for "Vika" Azarenka.
In the final against compatriot Sabalenka
In the final, the Belarusian will meet Aryna Sabalenka, who looked eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, but was able to make up 0: 6 and 0: 4 and finally made it to the semi-finals. In this, Sabalenka presented herself highly concentrated from the start, with 6: 4 and 6: 4, Azarenka's compatriot Jennifer Brady eliminated.
In the final, Victoria Azarenka is still the big favorite, having shot Sabalenka 6-1 and 6-3 off the pitch just a few weeks ago on her way to the US Open final. The final should take place tomorrow, Sunday.
