Iga Swiatek celebrated her 59th win of the season on Friday and thus reached the semi-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Ostrava. The world number one, who won the French Open and US Open in 2022, defeated Caty McNally 6: 4 and 6: 4 in the quarterfinals of the indoor tournament.
Swiatek meets Ekaterina Alexandrova in the semifinals on Saturday. The 27-year-old beat Czech local hero Tereza Martincova 6-1, 4-6 and 6-1 in the last match of the day.
Rybakina defeats Kvitova
The Czech tennis fans had already seen Petra Kvitova's end. The two-time Grand Slam winner lost to Elena Rybakina in her home tournament 6: 7 (5) and 4: 6. The Kazakh still has the opportunity to win her second title of the season after her Wimbledon triumph.
Rybakina faces Barbora Krejcikova in the semifinals. The 26-year-old held up the Czech flag in her quarter-final duel against Alycia Parks and won 7: 6 (7) and 6: 3.
