Jennifer Brady had already attracted attention at the beginning of the year, with victories over Maria Sharapova and Ashleigh Barty in Brisbane. And the semi-finals in Dubai, where she beat Elina Svitolina and Garbine Muguruza.
After the Corona break, she continued her achievements and won her first WTA title in Lexington / Kentucky. The reward: It's nine places in the current WTA world rankings up to 40th place - Brady has never been so high.
Teichmann back on career high
Lexington finalist Jil Teichmann also made up nine places, she is now on rank 54 and has thus equaled her career high from the previous year. Semi-finalist Cori Gauff made up three places and is now in 50th place.
At the top, however, nothing has changed. Ashleigh Barty is more than 2,000 points ahead of Prague winner Simona Halep, only Elise Mertens (semi-finalist in Prague) made up a place (No. 22), at the expense of Angelique Kerber (No. 23). Julia Görges remains in 38th place. The best Austrian is Barbara Haas in 139th place.
Brady thus placed at the US Open
Back to Brady, because her success in Lexington has a nice side effect: With the cancellation of nine players who are now ahead of her, Brady will be seeded at the US Open.
In general, the USA is currently doing well when it comes to women's tennis: With Sofia Kenin (4th), Serena Williams (9th) Madison Keys (13th), Alison Riske (19th), Amanda Anisimova (28th), Sloane Stephens (37th) .), Jennifer Brady (40th) and Cori Gauff (50th) are eight players in the top 50. And another ten in the top 100.
