With the tournament victory in Ostrava, Maria Sakkari didn’t get anything on Sunday (Anett Kontaveit won it), but the Sakkari, most recently in the semi-finals of the US Open, can still look forward to a milestone in their career. Because from this Monday a player from Greece will appear in the top ten of the WTA charts for the first time. Stefanos Tsitsipas has long since established himself on the top floor with men.
Iga Swiatek can also look forward to a new career high. The 2020 French Open winner climbed one more place and is currently number four in the tennis world. Ashleigh Barty is still enthroned at the top, followed by Aryna Sabalenka and Karolina Pliskova. The best German player is Angelique Kerber as number 14.
In the Porsche Race to Shenzhen, the annual classification, Barty, Sabalenka and Barbora Krejcikova have already secured their ticket for the final tournament in Guadalajara. It remains to be seen whether all of the top qualified players will compete there. At least with Barty and especially with Naomi Osaka doubts are appropriate.
