The lower half of the women's tableau at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Rome is becoming more and more open. Because after Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula failed in their first appearances, Caroline Garcia has now been number five and thus the highest remaining player in this section of the grid. Garcia already had massive problems against Ana Bogdan at the start, she now lost 4:6 and 4:6 to Camila Osorio.

The conquerors of Sabalenka and Pegula also had to say goodbye to the singles: Sofia Kenin lost against Anna Kalinina with 4:6 and 2:6. Taylor Townsend, who was able to beat Pegula, already led 4:2 in the third set against Xiyu Wang, but then lost 2:6, 6:0 and 5:7.
