Short working day for Elena Rybakina at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome: The reigning Wimbledon winner benefited in the third round with a score of 4: 3 from an injury-related resignation of her opponent Anna Kalinskaya, against whom she had lost in Madrid. In the round of 16, the Kazakhs will meet Marketa Vondrousova, who defeated Maria Sakkari in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Paula Badosa showed an impressive performance. The Spaniard beat 32nd seed Marta Kostyuk 6:4 and 6:2 and now faces Karolina Muchova. The 26-year-old beat local hero Camila Giorgi 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2.

Jelena Ostapenko is also one round further: The Latvian won against Barbora Krejcikova in a duel between two French Open winners 7: 6 (2) and 6: 0. In the round of 16, Ostapenko competes with Daria Kasatkina, who was able to hold her own against the Austrian Julia Grabher . World number one Iga Swiatek, on the other hand, had no problems at all in round three .
