After number three in the world (Jessica Pegula lost to Taylor Townsend in the late afternoon), number two was also hit at the WTA Tour 1000 tournament in Rome: Aryna Sabalenka, who still had an impressive success against Iga Swiatek in Madrid won the title, was defeated by Sofia Kenin from the USA 6:7 (4) and 2:6. For Kenin, this was arguably the biggest win since surprisingly winning the 2020 Australian Open.

Sabalenka seemed impatient and made more than 30 mistakes without need. World number one Iga Swiatek, who lost to Sabalenka in the final in Madrid, will only start the competition against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on Friday. Sofia Kenin meets Ukraine's Ana Kalinina in round three.

With Karolina Pliskova, a woman who has already won the title in Rome said goodbye. Pliskova lost to Anna Bondar from Hungary. On the other hand, Cori Gauff, who won 6-0 and 6-1 against Yulia Putintseva, went on without any problems.
