Elena Rybakina took her commitments at the WTA Tour 500 tournament in San Jose seriously. In the quarter-finals, however, it was over for the second-placed Kazakh. Rybakina, who had lost the match for third place against Elina Svitolina at the Olympic Games in Tokyo last Saturday, was defeated by local hero Danielle Collins 6: 7 (5) and 6: 7 (4).
Collins herself was almost surprised after she made it to the semifinals. Actually, she always had the feeling that she was running behind. Of course, the former college player was happy to take the win. Collins won her first ever Tour title in Palermo a few days ago, while Ana Konjuh will be the opponent in the semi-finals in San Jose, who made it through to the qualifying round.
In the second semi-final, tournament favorite Elise Mertens and Russian Daria Kasatkina face each other.
