The 34-year-old from Metzingen gave up a 5-2 lead against Wimbledon champion Jelena Rybakina (Kazakhstan/No. 3) in the third set, she had match point in the tie-break and lost 7-6 after 3:22 hours (7: 4), 4:6, 6:7 (8:10).
On the other hand, Anna-Lena Friedsam (Neuwied), who after a false start beat Elizabeth Mandlik (USA) 0: 6, 6: 4, 6: 1 and now challenges the top seeded Brit Emma Raducanu, is next.
In Chennai, India, Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) made it through to the round of 16 without any problems. The Wimbledon semi-finalist, seeded fourth in the $251,750 hard court tournament, beat Ankita Raina (India) 6-0, 6-1. Maria (35) now meets Nadia Podoroska from Argentina.
